ISEP - International Student Exchange Program

The offers students at ÁñÁ«ÊÓÆµ the opportunity to spend a semester abroad at over 120 universities worldwide. The program is particularly attractive for students who would like to broaden their horizons by studying in North America or Oceania. ISEP not only enables cultural exchange, but also academic and professional experience abroad.

ISEP Exchange

Through the ISEP Exchange Program, students at Leibniz University can spend a semester abroad at universities in the USA, Canada or Australia. The special feature of this program is the exchange: in return, international students come to Hanover. Tuition fees at the partner university are waived, making the stay more cost-effective.

  • Program Overview

    As part of the ISEP Exchange Program, students at Leibniz University can study at universities in the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

    Program

    Within in the framework of the partnership, the stay is limited to one semester.

    Subject Area

    Students  from all subject areas can apply for a place on the ISEP program. Depending on the individual universities, both Bachelor's and Master's courses can be taken.

    Conditions/Requirements

    Students can apply from their first year of study onwards.

    Costs

    • 4600 € Program Fee
    • 100$ ISEP Application Fee
    • 425$ ISEP Placement Fee
    • ca. 110$/Monat

    Services

    • Enrollment at the host university as a full-time student
    • Free accommodation during the semester abroad
    • At least 19 free meals per week
    • Support from the ISEP coordinator at the host university
    • Waiver of fees for the use of sports facilities, library, etc., if applicable.
  • Application
    Important Note!

    An application via the ISEP portal is not necessary in the first step!
    Please only start this after the internal application process and only if you have been selected by us for ISEP!

    Application Documents

    • via the mobility portal "MoveOn"

    The following documents must be uploaded with the application in MoveOn:

    • Application form HI (upload under "letter of motivation")
      • Please note whether you wish to apply for the university partnerships, ISEP, or both. 
    • CV (in English)
    • Proof of English B2
      • e.g. TOEFL, IELTS, DAAD, completed B2 language course, high school diploma, Duolingo English test
      • Depending on the university a TOEFL test may have to be submitted later.
    • Certificate and/or transcript of records from the examination office (in English)
    • Certificate of enrolment
    • 1 letter of reference from a lecturer (in English)
      • This should be written in general terms and not refer to just one university, unless you are only applying to one. You upload this with your application in MoveOn. 
    • You only need to complete a Learning Agreement once you have successfully applied.

    Application Deadlines for the General Application for a Semester Abroad

    Please allow sufficient time for your application. We recommend that you start preparing your application documents at least six weeks before the application deadline!

    • 01.12. for semester stays from July/August of the following year
    • 15.06. for semester stays from January/February of the following year 

    Important Notes on the Application

    • When applying for the ISEP program, Leibniz Universität students must specify five to ten target universities. Applications based on an incomplete priority list may not be considered.

    • When selecting the 5-10 universities, please note that the regions Australia/New Zealand and California are in particularly high demand. We would therefore ask you to also include universities outside these regions. Please only apply for ISEP if you would like to complete a semester abroad at each of the universities listed.

    • A cross-regional application is possible.

    • If your application is successful, we will nominate you either for a partner university or for ISEP, depending on your individual wishes, current availability and personal suitability. You then have the option of accepting or rejecting this nomination. If you decline the nomination, no alternative offer will be made to you. Therefore, please be clear already during the application process whether you would also accept a nomination for a university other than your preferred university.

    • Once you have been nominated for ISEP, you can apply via the .

    • If you reject a placement offer for reasons that are not valid, a new application for the ISEP program will no longer be considered (exception: personal reasons such as illness, emergency/death in the family, accident, etc.).

  • Internship Opportunity

    Possibility of an Internship in the USA after the Semester Abroad

    ISEP outgoings in the USA also have the option of completing an internship in the USA after the semester abroad. Please note the following:

    • The internship position must be sought by the students themselves and can be at the host university or in industry.
    • The internship may last a maximum of 4 months.
    • ISEP only supports students in extending their visa.

ISEP Direct

The ISEP Direct Program offers students the opportunity to study at renowned universities worldwide, with tuition fees paid directly by the students. Unlike ISEP Exchange, this program offers more flexibility in the choice of universities and countries, but there is a fee.

  • Program Overview

    Students from ISEP member universities can also apply for the fee-based ISEP Direct Program. The eligible universities worldwide can be found on the . 

    Unlike a stay through ISEP Exchange, students pay tuition fees here. However, these ISEP Direct fees are lower than the actual costs of a stay at the host university. 

    Program

    Within the framework of the partnership, stays of 1-2 semesters can be completed.

    Field of Study

    Students from all fields of study can apply for a place at ISEP. Depending on the individual universities, both bachelor's and master's courses can be taken. 

    Conditions/Requirements

    Students from the first year of study onwards can apply. 

    Costs

    As students are responsible for paying the tuition fees themselves in accordance with the program details via the ISEP Direct Program, costs can range from around 10,000€ per semester, depending on the destination university. For futher information please refer to the .

  • Application

    The application deadlines mentioned above do not apply to ISEP Direct.
