As part of the Erasmus+ mobility programme, Prof. Dr. Jutta Papenbrock, Director of the Institute of Botany and Dean of Studies at the Faculty of Natural Sciences at ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ (LUH), visited the Faculty of Chemical Sciences and Pharmacy at the University of San Carlos de Guatemala (USAC).
This visit marks another important step in the strategic cooperation between the two institutions.
During her stay, there was an intensive academic exchange with students and lecturers from the USAC.
The focus was on current research work on the development of salt-resistant crops, a forward-looking topic in view of global environmental changes. Scientific perspectives were exchanged and potential areas of cooperation explored in lectures, discussions and workshops.
In addition, Prof. Dr. Jutta Papenbrock and her Guatemalan colleagues undertook excursions to various regions of the country to identify opportunities for joint research projects in the field of plant biotechnology.
Prof. Dr. Jutta Papenbrock was accompanied by Prof. Dr. Jorge Vargas and Prof. Dr. Roberto Flores Arzú. The latter is supervising the master's thesis of a German student who is conducting field research in Guatemala for three months as part of his studies at LUH.
This visit underscores the Department of Cooperation and International Relations at USAC's commitment to the internationalisation of education and science. The aim is to further expand strategic partnerships and establish sustainable academic networks.
