The RISE Worldwide (Research Internships in Science and Engineering) scholarship program, offered by the DAAD, provides bachelor students enrolled at German universities with the opportunity to complete a research internship abroad. The aim is to gain initial international research experience and to foster scientific exchange.
What does RISE Worldwide offer?
Students can complete internships in the following fields:
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
- Earth Sciences
- Engineering
- Medicine
- Computer Science
- and related disciplines
The internship placements are offered by international research groups and are accessible exclusively through the DAAD's program-specific database. Applications can only be submitted for projects listed in that database.
Who can apply?
- Eligible applicants:
Bachelor students who are enrolled at a German university or university of applied sciences for the entire duration of the internship. - Not eligible:
Master’s students
Application Process
For internships worldwide (excluding Canada):
- Registration and application open from October 15 via the DAAD website:
- Applicants may select and apply online for up to three projects listed in the database.
For internships in Canada (special programme):
- Application period: August 7 – September 18
- Applications are submitted via the Mitacs database:

Scholarship Benefits
The scholarship includes:
- A monthly DAAD full scholarship rate (depending on the host country) for up to three months
- A travel allowance
- Health, accident, and personal liability insurance
- For Canada: A local (Globalink) mentor.
